Phlebotomy

This is an eleven-week 128-hour program designed to teach students in drawing and handling blood samples through venipuncture and skin puncture techniques for laboratory testing in hospitals, doctors' office, and large service laboratories. Emphasis will be on approved methods and safety, medical terminology, anatomy, and laboratory procedures. This course will contain lecture discussion and practical instructions on performing skills needed to be a certified phlebotomist. Students are required to complete 40 hours of externship before graduating.

Entrance requirements (For Phlebotomy Students): 
• Applicant must be 18 years of age.
• Applicant must submit a recent Physical examination within 12 months.
• Applicant must submit documentation of T.B. test within the last year.
(All positive TB test must be accompanied by normal chest X-ray results)
• Applicant must submit documentation of current Hepatitis immunization
• Applicant must submit a form of picture ID.
• Applicant must be a high school graduate or hold a General Education Diploma.
• Applicant must submit a positive BCI or FBI Criminal Report

 Students will not be permitted to begin class without the above documentation

Note: All payments and paperwork are due one week before class

Externship hours will vary from normal class times. Typical externship hours conform to the normal business hours of the physician’s office hours;  Monday through Friday  8am to 5pm. Students will be assigned to an externship  site for a week (5 consecutive days) in order to complete 40 hours of clinical experience. Students will assume sole responsibility in securing their own externship site if they cannot attend during the hours that the school has arranged.

Day class:            9:00 am - 1:15 pm   (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays)
Evening Class:      6:00 pm - 10:15 pm  (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays)
